As you can tell from the title, Mike turned 40 on November 20th and what should have been a fun night, turned out to be a depressing day. Poor Mike, bad things seem to happen around his birthday. The day before Mike's birthday I found out that due to HORRIBLE economic times, that the County will be doing budget cuts UP TO 20%. UGH! My stomach is one huge knot! Last year our department took a 12% cut and since we are a central service department (a.k.a., we do not generate revenue), 97% of our remaining budget is payroll. So as you can read, this will result in staff RIF's. Nothing like making the holidays holly and jolly. So needless to say, I was not in a partying mood.
I can not believe he is 40, or that on the 28th we will be married 10 years (plus 8 years of dating). Where does the time go?
We did have party on Saturday to celebrate his big 4 0 , and I think that made up for a yucky birthday night. We had about 40 friends and family over to celebrate the big milestone. Some of the friends we had not seen in years. I think everyone had a great time. It was nice having an adult party, I did not have to worry about crafts and toys for the kids, however we did get them a pinata in honor of the B-day boy.
Dinner was a polish Mexican fiesta, or that is at least what Mike called it. Mike requested tacos for his birthday, so we did a taco bar, but that the traditional appetizers of shrimp, cheese and crackers, meatballs, etc.; hence a polish Mexican fiesta.
Thank you to everyone who came and for the wonderful cards and gifts. We will have to do it again in another decade!
